This excellent villa has four air-conditioned, double bedrooms with bathrooms ensuite. Two bedrooms are in the main house and two are connected to the house by covered walkways. The dining room and patio overlook the pool and gazebo as well as the gardens and have a clear view of the sea. The house has a burgular alarm system. If a Watchman is required, there will be an additional charge.
One of the earliest and finest of the Sandy Lane villas designed by Robertson “Happy” Ward, Rossferry is the essence of the tropical open air, single storey villa that makes use of the Barbadian vernacular in its details. Built of solid coral stone, the house is situated on approximately 1.7 acres and is designed to blend into the natural contours of the property.
The Royal Palm lined driveway leads to an entry under an arch of sego palms to the courtyard, which contains a lovely garden framing the pathway to the front door. As you step through the door, the house reveals the “inside-outside” style that is its hallmark. Coral stone columns separate the formal living and dining rooms. Large louvers allow the breeze to blow through and keep the rain from entering. The floor was recently replaced with Guyanese greenheart, a hard wood resistant to insects.
Opening off these formal spaces is a large, inviting, covered terrace with more informal sitting and dining areas, and powder room. The terrace looks out to a magnificent view of the Caribbean Sea that provides memorable sunset views. Descending from the terrace, brick steps lead to a large, tiled swimming pool set in a generous decking. Colorful plantings and a large gazebo add to the lovely scenery.
The four large bedrooms, each with modern en-suite bathrooms, are located off the terrace via covered outdoor walkways. Two bedrooms face the pool and gardens and two bedrooms are each in a separate cottage to the rear, each with their own covered terrace.
Off the dining room are the butler’s pantry and a large modern kitchen complete with a dishwasher, double electric ovens, large refrigerator and separate freezer. Two lockable storerooms, one that includes an electric wine fridge, are located by the kitchen. Adjacent to the kitchen, there is a spacious laundry room and staff sitting area, three staff bedrooms and staff bathroom.
The house is equipped with a security alarm system, cable TV with three reception units, a sound system with speakers located on both the terrace and the pool deck and three telephone lines, that support a digital telephone / intercom system, a fax machine and a dedicated internet connection. There is also an automatic irrigation system for the lawns and gardens, and an emergency reserve water tank.
Rossferry also has a beach cabana at the private Sandy Lane Property Owners beach facility, which is located on the beach by the Sandy Lane Hotel.
