A truly spectacular house, Villa Corfu is the neighbouring estate to « Mon Repos », the summer house of the King of Greece, and the birthplace of Prince Philip of Great Britain. On account of its beautiful location and splendid views, it was used in the James Bond film « For your eyes only » and « The Executioner » starring George Peppard.
Villa Corfu is perched eighty feet above the sea. It has beautiful panoramic views looking south and west over the Ionian sea and the famous Pondikonissi, or Mouse island. Large terraces overhang the sea, offering different places to enjoy every time of day. The pine forest cloaking the cliff down to the sea, scents the air all around, and the eight acres of beautifully tended gardens, woodland and sea-front are filled with shrubs and flowers, and shaded by bougainvillea, wisteria, plumbago and jasmine. Groves of twisted, silver olive-trees , punctauted by huge cypresses, and some very rare and ancient specimens, ensure privacy, while framing classic vistas of hills, bays and open sea.. The large pool (20m x 11m) is clear sea water, and is surrounded by lawn, with lemon trees in terracotta pots all around. There is a huge pool house with bar, kitchen area, shower-rooms and changing-rooms, and a barbecue. Plenty of pool toys and deckchairs entice one to while away the day here. A path winds down to the small pebble beach which has been extended with decking to enhance the bathing there. Other paths take you on romantic walks through the estate.
The Property has recently been totally refurbished and renovated to the highest standard. Large, airy bedrooms lead to their own marble bathrooms and dressing areas, and enjoy beautiful views through huge sliding windows with shutters and insect screens that all slide back to open onto spacious terraces leading into the garden. Most of the bedrooms have air-conditioning and all have ceiling fans. Bathrooms are all solid marble with chrome fittings. . Showers are of the highest quality. Lighting is excellent throughout and controlled by dimmer switches. The distribution of the bedrooms mean that each guest enjoys privacy and space ; children and separate families can be grouped together, and staff can be separately accommodated.
The furnishings are in cool, pale colours, made of natural materials ; stone, rattan, marble, driftwood and wood. The huge open-plan drawing-room, study and dining room opening onto a spectacular terrace with sea-views, allow spacious and flexible use, whether glamorous candlelit dining under the stars, or relaxed family groupings indoors. The Housekeeper presides over a linen-cupboard abundantly stocked with finest supplies, and the kitchens – into which a guest need never enter – are equipped with absolutely everything that one could possibly want.
Tennis, riding, bowling, bicycling, golf and waterskiing are all available by special arrangement with a nearby hotel. The Owners can arrange boat-trips by local caique, fast motor-yacht, or wooden schooner, for a one-off picnic, daily beach-trips or overnight trips further afield. The Villa’s boathouse can also provide mooring for a boat.
It is truly rare to find a property that can accommodate so many people in such comfort and luxury, in such a heavenly location. Here, the cosmopolitan delights of Corfu Town, the museums and archaeological digs in progress on the site of ancient Kerkyra, the convenience of an airport five minutes away, the beauty of a Greek, country estate, and a wonderful beach-and-boat holiday, are uniquely combined.
